Friendster yet another of our typical social-networking-site. It is interesting to observe that friendster is rather popular in our country really. When I asked few of my US friends do they have friendster so I could probably learn more about them, and usually I will get response such as ” whats that?”.
The era of asking phone number is no longer a part of our life so much now. Used to think that getting phone number can actually be a fun thing to do. First you need courage then open your mouth. Now, just say hey can I have ur email(which directly translate to both friendster and IM services such as MSN or Yahoo if registered under the same account.) It is a new way of knowing people, with the new style.
But what really is a friendster and why did it appears? I don’t know. And the closest rival of friendster that is MySpace(which is more frequently used in the US) is actually a music related social networking site. The famous band My Chemical Romance actually had few tracks of their first album, which recorded with an independent label and not with the big guys to be available for download through MySpace to get fan base before releasing their second album. As a result, they already created demand with people hunger for more and when they release the second album, you guess it, it is a hit right now.
On the path of pursuing my entrepreneur dream, creating a social website for a university came across my mind once. Such as Facebook that originates from Harvard and later expanded to MIT. Consider a platform where you can get to know people with the same interest with you within your uni, regardless of starting a small start-up, seeking freelancers or even getting someone for a cup of coffee at McD tomorrow morning! Or even linking Alumni and undergrads for career opportunity, seeking referrals or even just getting over first few months in a foreign university miles away from home.
Of course starting something this scale would require assistance. I am no fans of dreamweaver and CSS HTML are just some words that are too much for my pea size brain. If any of you have a better refined idea do drop me an email via Yuenmun_chan@yahoo.com and we could work something out.
P/S: Another entrepreneurship idea. With our reliable-speedy-sexy-steady-SCREAMYx-broadband, probably starting up another ISP company is a good idea. If you are starting one of this kind, fill me in automatically as your potential customer. Currently I am spending RM77 for a dialup speed with out-of-the-kind customer service line. Heck, enough ranting.
