Hug your handphone

On Wednesday my handphone decided she needs a break. She just refused to turn on and I have to send her to the service center. I won’t be seeing her till next Monday at least according to the technician and after that, my day get so messy because I don’t have a mobile.

First, I have no other phone, no house phone no nothing. Actually having no phone isn’t a real big threat to my daily routine. It is the contact list that in my phone that is bringing me so much miseries. I have no one to call as I cannot remember any number in my phone book. That is a bad thing when you rely to much on technology.

First problem, I have a dinner appointment but I can’t call my friend up. He is coming to campus but we haven decide where to meet. Thank god after digging my MSN chat history I got hold to his number. Next challenge is find a phone. If you think finding a public phone is easy, think again. I saw one, I walk to it and to my surprise, no coin accepted and only phone card. Crap! I walk around campus seeking the next available phone and got another with a coin insertion slot of course. Happily and panting, lifted the receiver, only to discover that there was no tone!Issh..the phone hunt begins again. I feel so isolated when I realize that I can’t reach anyone whenever I want to, disconnected…

On one of those dark corner, or perhaps place where no one passes by so often, I finally found a working phone. Called up and my friend did not pick up. Guess he is working. Usually we will just send them a SMS. But in my case I can’t do so. See how important and convenient is SMS. I have to sit there for a while and wait for a right time to call. Things get worst when you have more appointments and meetings next few days. Thank god my friend has an extra handset that he could lend me.

The problem with us is that we rely too much on technology. When is the last time you did not use your phone for a day? Don’t you feel uneasy when you went out without bringing your phone? Only after all these incidents, I never knew public phone can be that important, sms can be that convenient and just having a phone book can be that risky. For those who invented mobile handsets and messaging, big CHEERS for you!
