Borrowed from the library in the morning and returned in the afternoon. It is a book with short stories, all related to Einstein’s theory of time. This is a fictional and very artistic book. Don’t expect any equations or some solid physics law. It teaches us the theories from Einstein’s work. Instead of using equations, Lightman uses stories intelligently.
Imagine a world where time is discontinuous. For every minute passed, the time will stop for few milliseconds. During this extremely short period of time, nothing in the world moves, just laying still for a moment and after that, everything resume for another minute and the cycle repeats. No one can sense this short discontinuity, as it is too short to be felt.
One day, a young guy who loves this lady but has no courage to confess to her. He decided to ask her how she feels, and if she don’t have any feeling towards him, he decided to leave this place forever. He asked her to a coffee house and there both of them start chatting.
The girl actually likes him too. She is too shy to say so. The guy look into her eyes so closely when she talks. Their eyes met each other tightly, their heartbeat have the same frequency, their heads get closer and while the girl is trying to get new topic to say next, her eyes move to the right naturally and at this exact moment, the time stopped. Usually normal people won’t notice this, but because the young man was seeing her so closely that he can feels her eye moved away for very long time, that she hesitates, that she wasn’t sure, that she wasn’t keen in him..
The young man stand up and apologized that he has to leave. The girl waves goodbye to him and in her heart she wonders why he left suddenly, she wonders that why he did not like her…
That is one of the story from the book that are so creatively done and left a very deep memory in me. Most of the stories are special and thought provoking.
