Childish and Immaturity

It has been a while since I make a post. Thanks to NUS effort to make my life miserable with unending works and projects. Enuf ranting for now 🙂

Have someone called you childish and you got really offended by that? Well I think in fact you should. It is nicer to say “you are so immature” rather than being yelled as childish right? In fact, I think there is a huge different between that.

Say someone criticizes you with or without a reason. You got depressed. you fought back, you become emotional, you lost your mind, you yelled and the list go on. Things that a “childish” person would do. That is not immature and it is a classic case of childish. At my age at least, we should have a reasonable level of EQ now and acting that way isn’t right enough.

But consider another scenario, imagine you are just 5 years old now, and you wanted to put a pair of wings behind your back so you can fly like the pigeon you saw in the cartoon this morning. Is it childish then? I would say that is immature.

Immaturity has a more direct correlation with age. We get more and more mature with age (we should). But childish stays if you don’t notice it. I am sure most of us still have the “childish” moments. It just happens. But is childish really that bad? or because sometimes we just feel like acting like a kid and got tired pretending to be “mature” unconsciously?

Our culture restricts the creativity in us. It condemns immature ideas. When someone comes out with a new idea that is so out of ordinary, we say it is immature or worst childish. In fact, no idea should be termed childish and it can only be immature, and in most cases it is immature because the idea was proposed before the timing is right.

That is why children still have all those crazy imaginations flying around. By time, our education system and society perceptions drained that capabilities away from them. We place immature tags all around people on their crazy fantasies. Imagination is what we all desperately need in our society. Commenting something as childish and immature has very distinct difference between them.

Before you navigate away from this page, sit back and open your mind. Let your imagination flows, let it your mind wanders wildly, you might just discover what is the true value of your life, your ideas and what you are seeking for. Nothing is childish.
